Definitely geared more for the athletically focused, they’re supportive without feeling restrictive in the upper leg.īoxer shorts were designed to provide the same freedom of movement as shorts worn by boxers. Again, because they’re a bit longer than the traditional brief, they appear more modern than traditional briefs. Longer than the former and shorter than the latter, they essentially have the same cut as Sean Connery’s swim trunks in Goldfinger, hence the name. Trunk briefs toe the line between traditional briefs and boxer briefs. Not sure which one - briefs vs boxer briefs - is right for you? Figure out in our dedicate head-to-head review. Varvatos's design is the most like today's boxer briefs, though, which are longer and elasticated. ![]() Some folks claim to have seen pairs earlier on in history - like in Sears catalogs or in films like American Gigolo. The hybrid style is comfortable, supportive and flattering. This brilliant melding of boxer shorts and traditional briefs boasts the support of briefs while providing additional length in the leg for more coverage. In the mid-’90s, John Varvatos - then the head of menswear design at Calvin Klein - invented the boxer brief. Other options are made with odor-fighting merino wool, cooling bamboo fibers and breathable synthetics - all worth a look. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with white cotton, but there’s a range of colors and patterns available depending on your taste. But, before you begin comparing things like stretchiness, softness, and shape, learn the basic styles first because it's easy to call one pair one thing when it's really something else: aka when you broadly call a style boxers when they're actually boxer briefs.īriefs might be considered the most practical underwear due to their supportive fit, non-creeping tendencies, breathable cotton fabric and no-nonsense waistband. There are numerous styles and countless options available in fabrics like cotton, merino wool and high-performance synthetics out there from brands both new and old. Ready for that refresh? Here's an important tip: Just because you're swapping out old pairs doesn't mean you need to replace them with the same style from the same brand. Switching them out will make you feel better, too. What’s more, the new set provides comfort and looks quite good (especially compared to those you've owned for the better part of a decade). But refreshing your underwear is as important as buying a new electric toothbrush. Relegated to the backs of dark dresser drawers and thoughtlessly shuffled on every morning, it suffers from neglect: Maybe you’re stuck in a rut, busy with life or spending money elsewhere. I found that tomboyx actually degrades quicker than woxer.Too much of the time, underwear is an overlooked part of the wardrobe. Plus it almost feels like I’m not wearing anything bc they’re not so thick & constrictive.Īs for durability, I’ve been using woxer since they came out in 2019 & run them thru the wash & dryer lots & there has been no degradation on even the oldest pairs. They’re easier to wear under pants due to being a thinner material. The material of the brief is insanely soft as well.ĮTA: interestingly, the thickness of tomboyx is one of the reasons I like woxer better. Plus woxer’s waistbands are much softer & not as thick as tomboyx. They aren’t as tight/ restrictive as tomboyx, which is v important to me bc my neurodivergent brain can’t stand restrictive clothing around my waist. ![]() ![]() ![]() Obvs the comfort level of each is highly subjective (as the other folks replying to you find tomboyx more comfy) what I find more comfy about woxer is the waistbands. ~subscription pro tip~ you can change which “random” pair you get by going to manage your subscription & then pick whichever you want out of the selections they have for you. Woxer is substantially more comfy to me than tomboyx, and cheaper! I do the monthly subscription & I love it. Did tomboyx for awhile until woxer came out & then tried them.
